This special session brings together organizations and individuals with an interest in the adoption of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems by medical groups/clinics and individual healthcare providers. A key focus of this session will be meaningful use. A variety of issues can be tabled and a subset selected for discussion, including but not limited to:

- the nature and capabilities of (or limits thereto) EMR systems relative to needs

- the challenge of and solutions to securing adoption, the usability of user interfaces

- the essential co-factors (e.g., process engineering, management of change, training, etc.) of the adoption and meaningful use of EMR systems

- the impact of these systems on provider time and practice cost

- new models of practice enabled by EMR systems given their current or potential capabilities

- required policy change to realize the potential of EMR systems

- other significant matters
